FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 5 FRIDAY INJURY REPORT: RODDY WHITE SUFFERS A SETBACK WITH ANKLE

Friday is here which means the injury report takes on big time prominence as fantasy football Week 5 gets into high gear Sunday.

-Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White has been a rock solid fantasy football wide receiver 1 for the duration of his career but so far in 2013 he can be classified as nothing but a colossal bust.  Dealing with a high ankle sprain going back to training camp, White has barely made any impact whatsoever as his reception totals have been almost non-existent due to the ankle.  However just when White began to show signs of life last week against New England, we get word that he apparently suffered a setback with the ankle during the outing.  It has now gotten to the point where White openly admitted to the media Friday that he will not play Sunday and with the team having a bye in Week 6, is now looking at Week 7 for a return.  Even if White does make it back for Week 7, he has to be glued to the bench given what we have seen thus far.  Just a disaster all the way around.

-Despite Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin being listed as "doubtful" for Week 5 with continued problems with his hamstring strain, we have it on good authority that he will miss the game.  One more week of this and Austin should be cut loose.

-We already know that Cleveland Browns QB Brian Hoyer is done for the season with a torn ACL.  The other QB to go down in Thursday's game however was the Buffalo Bills' E.J. Manuel who injured his own knee in a third quarter collision.  Word has now come down that Manuel sprained his LCL in the knee and could be out 6-8 weeks as a result.  Rookie Jeff Teul looked horrible in relief Thursday night which means the team is likely to sign a veteran such as David Carr or even Josh Freeman who was recently released.

-A week after oft-injured Darren McFadden came down with a hamstring injury, fellow anti-durability RB Ryan Mathews was put on the injury report Friday with his own leg issues.  Matthews apparently strained his hamstring in Friday's practice but is listed as probable.  With the game being moved to Sunday night at 11:30 ET, the replacement options will be very limited.  Matthews' owners cant be happy with his meager performance anyway to this point and likely have him on the bench as they should.

-Word out of New England is that tight end Rob Gronkowski is out for Week 5 as he continues to make slow progress in his return from back surgery.  On a more positive note, WR Danny Amendola is looking like a solid bet to play after missing three games with a severe groin injury.  We all know how fishy the New England injury report is so be sure to check back close to game-time in order to see if he does in fact play.
