Colin Kaepernick owners everywhere (and Anquan Boldin owners as well)
could breath a little easier after seeing the 49ers dominate on both
sides of the ball Thursday night over the once again hapless Rams.
Let's get to all the central storylines from the game from a fantasy
football angle.
-No doubt Kaepernick owners everywhere
were starting to wonder if they had a bust on their hands after the
49ers' read option QB was a complete abomination the last two weeks
after a stellar opener. Whispers that opposing defensive coordinators
had figured out how to stop the read option offense intensified these
worries. However a ridiculously poor Rams defense was all that
Kaepernick needed to get his season back on track as he threw for 167
yards and 2 touchdowns. Kaepernick also didn't throw any picks for the
first time in three weeks although he lost a fumble. Overall the
yardage was not impressive but Kaepernick reached the two touchdown
threshold which is the bare minimum we want out of our fantasy football
QB's.
As far as the other side was concerned, Sam
Bradford as horrendous in throwing for 202 yards with 1 garbage time TD
and an INT. While I still like Bradford's arm, there are no more
excuses this season with regards to him not having any help as Tavon
Austin, Jared Cook, and Austin Pettis have significantly improved the
passing weapons. He remains strictly a two-QB format guy but even in
that format he is a bit shaky right now.
-Frank Gore
predictably had a monster game against the shoddy Rams run defense which
allowed DeMarco Murray to run wild on them all afternoon last week.
Gore had his first 100-yard game of the season with 153 and his second
touchdown. A lost fumble was annoying and so was not catching any
passes. It is now BEYOND annoying how a guy who routinely caught
between 40-60 passes a season can't get a sniff of the ball through the
air since Jim Harbaugh became coach. So in essence Gore is now no
longer a PPR gem like he used to be which means if he doesn't have
running games like he had last night, he is a liability.
-We
have reached the point where you have to cut Daryl Richardson. Yes he
has caught passes this season but rushing for only 16 yards on 12
carries last night continues to shed a spotlight on how awful his
running has been. Get him out of there. And don't run to pick up
Isaiah Pead or Zac Stacy either.
-Anquan Boldin did next
to nothing like his QB the last two weeks but the two reconnected
Thursday as the wideout grabbed 5 passes for 90 yards and a score.
Solid and effective. As Kaepernick goes so goes Boldin this season.
-Vernon
Davis returned from his hamstring strain and luckily for his owners one
of his two catches went for a touchdown. Looking like he was playing a
bit slower than usual, Davis was not a focal point of the offense.
However he retains his knack for scoring touchowns.
-I can
only say nice things about Austin Pettis as far as Rams receivers are
concerned. He is having a nice season as he caught five passes Thursday
night for 59 yards. Some PPR appeal here for sure. That's about all I
want to say about this.
